Things to do in Fairbanks: The Howling Dog

Thanks to some new friends of ours, Mike Morgan and Kirsti Palmer, we found out about this neat little hang-out. The Howling Dog, located in Fox AK, is home of some great local Blues bands. Thursday nights attract a crowd that is a little "older" (40-somethings), while Friday nights attract younger crowds. There is no cover charge on Thursday, so it is nice to feel welcome and kick up your heels, if you wish. Mike is the director of operations at Warbelow's Air Ventures. Kirsti is the girl to talk to if you want to see Polar Bears, or maybe fly beyond the Arctic Circle.

The howling dog is not heated, so it is only open between May 1st and Halloween. It's quaint and rustic. The party begins at 9:00, but you can sit down a little early on your first visit and absorb all of the Alaskan memorabilia, peppered with items of interest for the bush pilot. If you're going to drive responsibly - this is a night club, after all - a cab from Fairbanks will run $90 to $100 round trip, tip included.
